OZORO/Nigeria: A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and senatorial aspirant in Delta South, Dr. Austin Orette, has strongly condemned the reported assault on women in Oruamudhu community, Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, describing the incident as a disturbing manifestation of moral decay and a gross violation of human rights.

In a statement titled “No to Sexual Abuse in Delta South Senatorial District,” Orette decried what he termed the ascendancy of evil in society, stressing that the incident underscores the urgent need for intensified public enlightenment to eradicate harmful and barbaric cultural practices.

“It tells us that much still needs to be done to truly educate the people on the need to abolish barbaric culture,” he stated.

The APC aspirant criticized individuals and groups whose actions, he said, are undermining social cohesion in Isoko North, and called for urgent and decisive steps to protect vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.

He urged the Delta State Government to act swiftly in addressing the situation, insisting that the authorities owe it to the victims to ensure justice is served.

“The Delta State Government owes it to the victims to take immediate action,” he said, while condemning in strong terms the public debasement and abuse of women.

Orette further warned against societal indifference, stressing that communities must not turn a blind eye to such atrocities.

“The community must not turn a blind eye to these atrocities,” he added.

He called for unhindered access to justice for victims, urging the government to strengthen the rule of law through thorough investigation and diligent prosecution of all those involved.

“The onus is on the government to strengthen the rule of law and to ensure that there is proper investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators. Delivering justice to victims sends a clear message of zero tolerance and helps to prevent recurrence,” he stated.

While extending his sympathies to the victims, Orette emphasized that those responsible for the acts must be held accountable, insisting that justice must prevail to restore public confidence and deter future occurrences.
