APC Chieftain Condemns Threats Against Rivers Governor, Urges Restraint

PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: In a strong-worded rebuke, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has cautioned against the recent wave of threats and verbal attacks on the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara.

Reacting to a statement attributed to Bright Amaewhule, the Coordinator of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), wherein Amaewhule warned of imminent conflict, Chief Eze condemned the rhetoric, stating that such “cascade of uncanny vitriol qualifies the maker for an invitation from relevant security agencies for questioning.”

In the statement released to the media, Chief Eze emphasized the need for respect for the office of the Governor, noting that Governor Fubara’s peaceful disposition should not be mistaken for weakness. He called on the Police to intervene swiftly to prevent further escalation and cautioned against any attempts to monopolize threats and political violence in Rivers State.

Amaewhule’s remarks, as quoted, warned of repercussions for those perceived to insult Governor Fubara and other political figures. Chief Eze criticized these remarks, describing them as “misdirected vituperation” and urged Amaewhule and others to consider the legal implications of their statements.

Furthermore, Chief Eze highlighted Governor Fubara’s commitment to governance, emphasizing that the Governor owes loyalty to the people of Rivers State and the Nigerian Constitution, not to any individual. He urged restraint and called on political leaders, including President Tinubu, to intervene and prevent any escalation of tensions in the state.

In conclusion, Chief Eze reiterated the need for peaceful coexistence and urged all parties to prioritize dialogue and respect for the rule of law.
