APC Chieftain Eboh Tackles Okubor over Comments on Delta North Meeting, Defends Nwoko’s Role

Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Engineer Emmanuel Afam Eboh, and Dr. Festus Okubor, Chief Strategist to the Delta State Governor

ASABA/Nigeria: A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Engineer Emmanuel Afam Eboh, has described as a misrepresentation of facts, recent comments credited to Dr. Festus Okubor, Chief Strategist to the Delta State Governor, over the Delta North senatorial meeting hosted by Senator Ned Nwoko.

Eboh, in a strongly worded statement on Friday, dismissed Okubor’s concerns as “alarmist and ill-informed,” stressing that the meeting held on June 14, 2025, at Idumuje-Ugboko followed due process in line with the party’s constitutional provisions.

Reacting to Okubor’s claim in a media interview suggesting the meeting lacked proper authorization, Eboh emphasized that such gatherings fall under the jurisdiction of the senatorial chairman and not the deputy governor, even if the latter is recognized as the party’s leader in the district.

“Senatorial meetings have long been established before Dr. Okubor joined the APC a few months ago. Party meetings are constitutionally mandated to be convened by the senatorial chairman, who also has the power to delegate a host. That was the case when Chief Adizue Eluaka authorized Senator Ned Nwoko to host the June 14 meeting,” Eboh stated.

He noted that it was unfortunate for a new entrant like Okubor to publicly make what he termed “sensitive and divisive remarks” without first familiarizing himself with the APC’s rules of engagement.

While acknowledging the deputy governor’s status as the party’s leader in Delta North, Eboh maintained that his role does not extend to convening routine meetings except under exceptional circumstances, adding that Senator Nwoko’s hosting of the event was legitimate and praiseworthy.

“Senator Nwoko acted well and deserves commendation for being a rallying force in unifying and energizing the APC in Delta North,” he said, describing the meeting as a resounding success attended by thousands of APC leaders and stakeholders.

According to Eboh, the high point of the gathering was the symbolic endorsement of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Nwoko for second terms ahead of the 2027 elections, a move he said speaks to the growing cohesion within the party.

He further advised party members to steer clear of inflammatory rhetoric and uphold the values of discipline and decorum that define the APC. “There is no room for reckless and inflammatory utterances in the affairs of our party. We must all be guided by the constitution and maintain party discipline,” Eboh added.
