ASABA/Nigeria: Following the Appeal Court’s verdict on November 24, Dr. (Barr) Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant on Communication and Orientation to Delta State Governor, has advised Senator Augustine Ovie Omo-Agege, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State’s 2023 election, to display magnanimity and political maturity by acknowledging the judgment and congratulating his opponent, Rt Hon Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori.
During a radio interview in Asaba, Oghenesivbe emphasized the futility of pursuing the matter further in the Supreme Court, highlighting that the Appellate Court’s ruling, which affirmed the victory of Oborevwori, stands as a testament to the fairness of the electoral process.
He reiterated that the legal process, including both the Tribunal and Appeal Courts, revealed significant lapses in Omo-Agege and APC’s claims. They allegedly relied on unsubstantiated hearsay, failed to present credible evidence of irregularities, and neglected proper legal protocols in their submissions.
Oghenesivbe stressed that the courts’ decisions unequivocally dismissed the APC’s petitions as lacking merit and being mere academic exercises. He urged Omo-Agege to gracefully accept the outcome and extend congratulations to Oborevwori rather than prolonging a legal battle that appears futile and destined for failure.
In a pointed statement, Oghenesivbe encouraged Omo-Agege to embrace the role of a gracious loser, demonstrating sportsmanship and an acknowledgment of the truth evident in the court verdicts, emphasizing that a move to the Supreme Court would only lead to a final defeat for him and his party.
“Senator Agege should proactively demonstrate his sportsmanship and acceptance of the truth, evident in the tribunal and court rulings,” remarked Oghenesivbe.
The call for Omo-Agege to concede defeat resonates as a plea for political decorum and acceptance of the judicial process’s outcome, urging a closure to a contentious chapter in Delta State’s gubernatorial election.
