UGHELLI/Nigeria: Renowned public speaker and governance advocate, Dr. Charles Apoki, has been named the keynote speaker for the 2026 Advocate Publication Annual Lecture Series.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council (ALSBC), Olorogun Abraham Ogbodo, in a statement signed by the Board Secretary, Mr. Shedrack Onitsha.
The board said Dr. Apoki emerged as the keynote speaker after a thorough search process aimed at identifying a thought leader capable of addressing Nigeria’s governance and democratic challenges.
According to the statement, the respected conference speaker will deliver a keynote lecture titled “From Ballot to Patronage: Why Electoral Victory Fails to Deliver Good Governance in Nigeria.”
The lecture is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Wetland Hotel in Ughelli, Delta State.
Following the keynote presentation, experts from the judiciary, law enforcement agencies and civil society organisations will participate in a panel discussion to examine the broader implications of the topic.
The ALSBC explained that the lecture will focus on the growing disconnect between electoral victory and effective governance in Nigeria.
The event will interrogate how elections sometimes become channels for political patronage and elite power consolidation rather than instruments for democratic accountability.
It will also examine the roles of godfatherism, weak institutional oversight and the monetisation of politics in weakening democratic mandates, while proposing reforms aimed at restoring public trust in governance.
Dr. Apoki, a graduate of the University of Ibadan College of Medicine, obtained his medical degree in 1984 and later earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
An ordained clergyman and respected motivational speaker, he has delivered lectures and teachings across Africa and Europe.
He is also the convener of the Word and Wisdom Conference and the proprietor of Petra Christian Academy, while also serving as a marriage counsellor and leadership mentor.
