UGHELLI/Nigeria: The Archbishop of Bendel Province and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese (Anglican Communion), His Grace, Most Revd. Cyril Odutemu, has called on all Deltans, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in his efforts to develop the state.
The cleric made this appeal on Sunday while dedicating the Chapel of Grace & Mercy, built and furnished by the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Hon. Jaro Egbo, at Camp Moses Vineyard, Abovwe-Ughelli. He urged residents of Delta State to support the governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda, stating that Oborevwori’s developmental strides are already visible across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“Gone are the days Urhobos fought themselves; gone are the days Deltans fought themselves; our God will not allow it again. Let’s not join the bandwagon today. It might not be your turn, but tomorrow might be your turn. Let us support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to deliver strong,” the archbishop declared.
Earlier, in his homily during a thanksgiving service held at All Saints Anglican Cathedral, Otor-Iwreko, Ughelli, Odutemu charged political and public office holders to embrace humility and enact laws that prioritize the welfare of the masses. Preaching on the theme “Humility” from 1 Peter 5:6, he emphasized the importance of selflessness and the need for leaders to follow the example of Jesus Christ, who humbled himself even to be baptized by John the Baptist.
Reflecting on his journey to becoming council chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo expressed gratitude to God and Governor Oborevwori for the opportunity. He noted that he never campaigned for the position but was divinely chosen.
“I never consulted anybody nor campaigned to become Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, but the state governor called on me to serve. Many told me that to be in the governor’s favor, one must consult widely and seek power from diabolical sources, but I anchored my faith in God, and He favored me with His blessings and mercies,” Egbo said.
The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Bishop Blessing Erifeta of the Anglican Diocese of Sapele, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, former Chief of Staff, Hon. Festus Agas, Hon. Sunday Onoriode, and several traditional rulers. Others in attendance included Chief Fred Majemite, Chief (Dr) Isaac Akpoveta, Hon. Spencer Ohwofa, Hon. Mathew Omonade, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and other notable personalities.
