SAPELE/Nigeria: The General Officer Commanding , 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Chukwunedum Abraham has debunked the rumour that the Nigerian Army is administering vaccines to school children across the nation against the said monkey pox outbreak.
The GOC made this assertion during the
official flag off of the Operation Crocodile Smile II in Sapele local government area of Delta State.
His words” how could it be posable, that the Nigerian Army, the people’s army will even think of such a thing?, I want to say that it is false and such a thing can never be conceived by the Nigerian army”. ” the army needs the people for information and that is why we are conducting free medial care as part of our way of appreciating our people “.
Major General Abraham, while performing the brief ceremony, urged the troops to be good ambassadors of the Nigerian Army, display good and professional conducts, be polite to civilians, and follow the rules; even as they Carry out their official assignment.
His words ” I am here today to flag off and educate you on proper conducts of this operation; you are going out there to ensure that those who sabotage our economy, destruction of pipe lines, illegal refineries and other vices are completely deprived from carrying out such act.,
He added ” you are to ensure that our water ways are kept clear of pirates and other elements, so that those who carry out their legitimate businesses can do so with out any interference because that is why you were carefully selected ”
On his part, Brigadier General Ibrahim Garba, of the 4 Brigade, Benin had earlier address troops members and urged them to always represent the good image of the Nigerian Army.
The GOC was accompanied by other top military officers across various states.
In a related development, as part of its Corporate and social responsibility to the people in its area of operations, Troops of the 19 Battalion, of the Nigerian Army Koko has doles out free medical treatment and other items to its host communities across Delta State.
The gesture according to the Commanding Officer of the 19 Battalion, of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Mohammed Ma ‘aji, said that, it is part of activities marking the ongoing “Operation Crocodile Smile II and a away of saying “thank you” to its host communities for their unalloyed corporation and support across the state especially in the riverine area.
The CO while flagging off the free medical treatment in Oton, Sapele local government area and Opuama in Warri North local government areas of Delta States respectively, expressed satisfactions at the manners in which the good people of Oton, Opuama and other communities have displayed in understanding the military operations.
His words ” the aim of this free medical exercise is to say “thank you to all our host communities in the riverine area in ensuring that the relative peace is sustained in our areas of operations”.
He added ” operation crocodile smile II is in line with the Nigerian Army Training Directive for the year 2017, and it is being conducted simultaneously in all the units under 4 Brigade Nigeria Army and in Edo, Delta and Ondo states respectively”.
Responding, the Public Relations Officer, Oton Community, Mr. Arija Davide, and his Opuama’s Counterpart, Hon. Kinkin Ebiye both expressed gratitude to the 19 Battalion troops especially the Commanding Officer for the great work he is doing
The Free Medical Outreach include: checking of blood pressure, random blood sugar, free medical check up, free medication and distribution of free Mosquito Nets.
It should be noted that, the operation crocodile smile II is a routine training exercise undertaken by the Nigerian Army especially for the troops deployed to the riverine areas to provide them the opportunity to train effectively on various aspects of operational proficiency in land and riverine operations.
