KOKO/Nigeria: The Nigeria Army has solicited for land in Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government Area to build its barracks.
Our correspondent gathered that the request is coming after the Army Unit, 19 Battalion, Koko, was upgraded to a full command known as 90 Amphibious Battalion, Koko, as a means of strengthening its operations in the area.
The commanding officer of the new battalion, Major Joshua Ajongbo, said that the creation of the new command in Koko was one of the many innovations of the Nigeria Army.
He added that the acquisition of a land in Koko by the Nigeria Army to build barracks, would solve accommodation issues for the soldiers, and avail them the opportunity of having their families with them.
On his part, the Olare-Aja of Koko, Pa. Richmond Atsenuwa, said that he would ensure the command was given a suitable land in the community, stating that the presence of an army barracks would not only impact on the social economic life of the area, but also enhance security in the area.
Atsenuwa emphasized that Koko community had, overtime, enjoyed the robust relationship with the Nigeria Army, adding that Koko would always remain a home for the army.
It will be recalled that Koko community late last year provided the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps with a parcel of land to build its base.
