ASABA/Nigeria: Dignitaries from various sectors gathered at the First Baptist Church, Eku in Ethiope East local government area, as Rt Hon Arthur Akpowhowho, Deputy Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude to God for his electoral triumph in a well-attended Thanksgiving Service on Sunday.
Governor Sheriff Oborevrwori, who attended the service, praised Akpowhowho’s perseverance in his political journey to the State Assembly. The event was graced by the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of Delta State Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, Member of the National Assembly, Julius Pondi, Members of the State Legislature, and other prominent government officials, Traditional and Religious Leaders, as well as various stakeholders in the State.
Recalling the ruling People’s Democratic Party’s 20-year electoral drought in Ethiope East, Governor Oborevrwori described the Thanksgiving as long overdue. He acknowledged Akpowhowho’s resilience and loyalty to the party, despite facing initial challenges.
During the service, Rt Hon Arthur Akpowhowho expressed his gratitude to God for the political opportunity that had eluded him in the past. He promised to make a positive impact on the lives of the people in his new role as Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly and pledged his support to the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, to ensure stability in the State legislature.
Akpowhowho praised Governor Oborevrwori for his unwavering support and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for laying the foundation that brought him success.
In a powerful sermon, Revd Akpotor Eboh emphasized that power belongs to God and encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith. He prayed for the removal of obstacles hindering progress in the State and for peace, unity, and infrastructural development in Delta.
The celebration continued with a special reception at the Baptist High School, Eku, attended by a diverse group of federal and state government officials, family members, political associates, friends, and well-wishers. The event featured musical entertainment and other side attractions, making it a memorable occasion for all.
