Asaba:The Delta State House of Assembly, yesterday, confirmed for appointment as chairman and members of the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission the seven nominees whose names were forwarded to the House by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The confirmation followed a motion to that effect by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere after the successful screening of the nominees at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya.
Dr. Okowa had in a letter to the House, said the appointments was in exercise of the powers conferred on him as governor of the state by section four, sub-section three of the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission law 1999.
Those screened and had their appointment confirmed include, Mrs. Josephine Kachikwu, Chairman while Mr. Sunday Owho Ebireri, Mr. Christian Iteire, Mrs. Cordelia Anyangwu, Mr. Monday Ishiekwene, Mr. Richard Ofenor and Mr. Oyazimo Ebiakpor as members.
The chairman and two others, Mr. Christian Iteire and Cordelia Anyangwu were on the former board of the commission, while the remaining four are fresh appointees.
The nominees after taking turns to introduce themselves and their local governments of origin were asked to take a bow before the mace and leave the hallow chambers.
The application for the nominees to enjoy the highest privilege of the House was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere and supported by the Member representing Isoko South II Constituency, Hon. Johnson Erijo.
Hon. Owhefere and Erijo in their submissions urged the House to allow the nominees to take a bow and leave, explaining that three of the nominees have been screened by the House in the past, while the other four are well known to members.
The motion for the confirmation of the nominees was moved by the majority leader and was unanimously adopted.
Meanwhile, the House adopted the report of its committee on Water Resources for the ratification of the Warri-Effurun Water Scheme Concession Agreement.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Samuel Mariere had last week, presented the report at plenary, describing the development as a step in the right direction.
The House deferred the second reading of the Delta State Water Bill and the Delta State Special Offenses Court Bill.
Also deferred was the submission of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the 2017 Delta State Appropriation Bill.
