ASABA/Nigeria: The Director-General (DG), Delta State Orientation Bureau, Mr Eugene Uzum, has charged youths to continue to maximize their roles as change agents.
Mr Uzum made the call when the executives of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ika North East and Ika South led by their Chairmen, Comrade Lucky Ehiobu and Comrade Christian Izegede paid him a courtesy call in his office in Asaba.
While congratulating youths for their bold initiatives, he urged the youth body to positively challenge government at all levels for dividends of democracy, stressing that youths remained the back bone and heart of any society.
“Let me point out that Ika youths are hard working, resourceful and non restive. They are prominent for doing a lot to have good life
“But youth council has much to do by way of coming up with how to change the mindset of ika youths in the areas of lack of unity, cultism, Yahoo Yahoo, illegal migration, mental docility, among our vices,” he stated.
Continuing, he observed that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State would continue to give top attention to youth development and empowerment, a feat which he said had earned the governor massive commendation.
“The government of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has created job opportunities for countless youths across the state which has translated them from job-seekers to employers of labour,” he added.
Uzum, a lawyer, pledged to partner with youth council in its societal transformation agenda.
Earlier in their separate remarks, the two chairmen noted that the aims of their visit were among other things to partner with Delta State Orientation Bureau and be mentored by the DG following his exploits and impact in the state.
According to them we are not beggars, we poised to change the narratives by setting the stage for things that will improve the lot of ika youths and the society in general.
