ABUJA/Nigeria: The argument on the legality of the arrest and detention of the editor of www.elomba.com has taking a new dimension, as a group that goes with the name “The Integrity Youth Alliance” has called on Nigerians especially the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) to be cautious in their bid to fight for the release of Timothy Elombah.
In a press release on Wednesday in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of Integrity Youth Alliance, Danjuma Lamido, and made available to www.ndokwareporters.com, the group said that the most people condemning the arrest of Timothy Elombah should read what he wrote against the Nigeria Police and the Inspector General of Police before taking side, as the group is advocating the control and regulation of the new media.
“It is high time the new media is highly monitored and regulated to bring sanity to new media operations.
They further said that since the case in the court, further discussion should be reserved and allow the judiciary to deal with the case.
“Since the case is in court, we are forced to reserve further discussion on the issues while we await the investigation of the Nigeria Police on his offences, the statement concluded.
