Benue Killings: Christian Association of Nigeria Goofed On IGP Ibrahim Idris

ABUJA/Nigeria: Nigerians have been urged to ignore the statement credited to the General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) Rev. Dr. Musa Asake at a press briefing on Tuesday, 16th January, 2018 in Abuja.

In a press release by the National Coordinator of the Integrity Youth Alliance in Abuja on Tuesday, Kelvin Adegbenga said that it is unfortunate that a so called “Reverend” could say that “the IG will always take side and make statements that are provocative to the people of the affected area”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Kaduna and Benue State is used to communal clashes right from exception, so the Inspector General of Police might be right to tag it communal clash, Adegbenga said.

“By definition, communal clash is a form of violence that is perpetrated across ethnic or communal lines, the violent parties feel solidarity for their respective groups, and victims are chosen based upon group membership. The Fulani is an ethnic group so also is the Logo and Guma communities of Benue State.

The group called on Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) leadership to be careful in making statement that can create tension and disunity of Nigeria.

“Just as Jesus Christ in Ephesians 2:17 (He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near) preached peace, we called on Religious leaders to follow suit, the statement concluded.
