Bible Society of Nigeria Distributes N7 Million in Food and Educational Supplies to Makoko Community

YABA/Nigeria: On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Makoko community in Yaba, Lagos State, experienced an extraordinary act of generosity as the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) distributed foodstuffs and educational materials worth N7 million.

This significant gesture, which benefited about 90 residents regardless of age, tribe, or religion, was part of BSN’s commitment to promoting the social doctrine of the church by aiding those in need and spreading the Gospel’s message of love and light.

The event, under the umbrella of the Macedonia Call Project, was spearheaded by BSN’s General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Pastor Samuel Sanusi.

Represented by Mrs. Grace Benjamin, Sanusi articulated the project’s vision: “We want to live out what is in the Bible. What we are doing today is in accordance with the Bible, which says we should support the needy among us. We don’t just translate the Bible; we help people interact with the word of God.”

Sanusi emphasized that the BSN is dedicated to addressing both the spiritual and material needs of the community, especially in the face of current economic challenges. “The government cannot do it all,” he noted.

“The Macedonia Call Project is part of our efforts to support what the government is doing for its citizens.” He further highlighted that the society’s contributions extended beyond physical necessities to include spiritual support through the distribution of Bibles.

Among the beneficiaries were 120 pupils from Adekunle Primary School, Makoko, who received school packs from the BSN. Grateful community members expressed their appreciation for the assistance.

Ijukmisinno Hezekiah, one of the food recipients, remarked on the positive impact of the donations on alleviating their hardships. Esther Benson, another beneficiary, echoed this sentiment, saying, “The food items mean a lot to me during this current economic hardship.”

The Macedonia Call Project, launched in 2018, has consistently reached out to thousands of Nigerians, particularly those in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and slums across the country, reaffirming BSN’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian aid and spiritual support.
