Bible Society of Nigeria Donates ₦21.7 Million Worth of Bibles in 2023

LAGOS/Nigeria: In a testament to their commitment to making the Word of God accessible to all, the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has announced the donation of assorted Bibles valued at ₦21.7 million in the year 2023 as part of its ongoing free Bible distribution initiative. This significant contribution marks a 30 per cent increase from the ₦16.7 million worth of Scriptures donated to the less privileged in 2022.

According to Mr. Benjamin Mordi, the Manager of Media and Public Relations at the BSN, beneficiaries of this benevolent gesture include prison inmates, churches, Christian fellowships, organizations, schools for the blind, and individual members of the public, among others.

Mordi highlighted that the value of the Bibles donated to sighted individuals amounted to ₦11.5 million, while 146 complete sets of Braille Bibles provided to people with visual impairments cost ₦10.2 million. He emphasized that each complete set of the Braille Bible, consisting of 37 volumes, is priced at ₦70,000.

The free distribution program is made possible through contributions from various sources including members of the Bible-A-Month Club, Special Members, corporate organizations, churches, and individual donors, particularly for the Braille Bible project – You Can Be Their Eyes (YCBTE).

Mordi stated, “Through free Bible distribution and other laudable programs, the BSN has continued to break every known barrier that makes the Word of God inaccessible to people.”

The Bible Society of Nigeria, a not-for-profit interdenominational Christian organization, is dedicated to translating the Bible into local languages, publishing, distributing, and raising funds for Bible work. Additionally, the society organizes life-transforming programs to facilitate engagement with the Word of God.

Mordi further added, “So far, we have the complete Bible in 27 Nigerian languages, while translation/revision is ongoing in nine different languages at their respective stages of completion.”
