LAGOS/Nigeria: The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) is preparing to hold the 22nd edition of its annual Marathon Bible Reading (MBR) event, a weeklong spiritual exercise that promotes constant engagement with the Word of God for spiritual growth and transformation.
The event will take place from Monday, August 26, to Friday, August 30, 2024, in Lagos and 21 other states across the country.
The programme will be officially inaugurated on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Christ Anglican Church, Elere, Agege, Lagos. The General Secretary/CEO of BSN, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, will declare the event open.
The Marathon Bible Reading is structured to encourage participants to read the Bible in their native languages, uninterrupted, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily at various centres.
The event offers a unique opportunity for participants, regardless of age, profession, gender, or status, to immerse themselves in the scriptures, helping others to hear the Word of God in a new way while joining together in continuous Bible reading.
Reflecting on past editions, one participant noted, “Participating in MBR guarantees three-fold joy. Apart from reading the Bible in their languages, participants will help someone else hear the Word of God in a new way and join others in the continuous reading of the Bible.”
In a time when marathon activities are gaining popularity for breaking records, such as Hilda Bacci’s Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon and Tunde Onakoya’s record for the longest chess marathon, the BSN invites Nigerians to take part in this spiritually enriching experience.
Unlike other marathons aimed at earthly accolades, the MBR offers participants the chance to experience divine blessings, including testimonies of healing.
The Bible Society of Nigeria is a not-for-profit, interdenominational Christian organization dedicated to translating the Bible into Nigerian languages, publishing, distributing, and raising funds for Bible work.
The BSN has successfully translated the complete Bible into 27 Nigerian languages, with ongoing translation and revision efforts in 10 more languages. Through its programmes, the BSN continues to engage people with the Word of God, transforming lives across the nation.
