Boy found Dead in Ethiope River

IGPTragedy struck recently in Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government of Delta State, when a teenager, 16 years Wisdom Idama was found dead in the Ethiope River.

According to the father Benedict Idama who narrated the story to our reporter, said the son was lured out of their home and murdered on the June 4, 2014.

My Idama said that he got wind of the incident when his wife called him that their first son was missing. According to him, the boy left the house around 3pm on a Saturday with one of his friend, Chinedu with wisdom’s bicycle.

But the boy never came back to the house, when they discovered his bicycle at the back of the house, around 6pm, but they were told by the friend that he saw their son with two other boys close to the Obiaruku Market around 5pm on that day.

Narrating the story further, Mr Idama stated that the son was not found until Wednesday, June 8, 2016, when the news came that a boy was found drowned in River Ethiope and his corpse was floating.

“The family rushed to the river, and the body which was already decaying was brought out for identification”. He said.

Mr Idama, said that he immediately reported the case to the Obiaruku Police Station to seek for authorisation to bury the corpse because he had earlier reported the case to the police.

However, information from sources said earlier, the Wisdom was earlier being pursued by a group of boys near the river, locked up, before he was shot and thrown into the river.

The late Wisdom Idama, was SS2 students of Obiaruku Grammar School, Obiaruku, prior to his death.

He was a brilliant student who had won series awards. A Sunday school teacher at the Apostolic Church District Headquarters, Obiaruku.

However, made to speak with the Divisional Police Officer, or the Divisional Crime Officer was not successful as both were said to be out for official assignment.
