SAO PAULO/Nigeria: Delta State has taken a bold step toward agricultural transformation as a high-level delegation, initiated by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, visited one of Brazil’s largest and most advanced ranches to explore opportunities for collaboration in modern livestock production and agribusiness.
The visit is part of the Governor’s agenda to diversify the state’s economy, strengthen food security, and create sustainable jobs for Deltans. The team inspected facilities, held strategic talks, and reviewed Brazil’s globally acclaimed models in cattle breeding, livestock management, pasture development, dairy production, and agro-processing.
Leader of the delegation and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Dr. Barry Pere Gbe, said Delta State is determined to adopt global best practices in agriculture through strong international partnerships. “Brazil is renowned for its advancements in livestock and ranching, and we believe that collaboration in this sector will bring immense benefits to our people,” he stated.
He explained that the mission aligns with the Oborevwori administration’s goal of replicating Brazil’s successful ranching systems, strengthening local capacity, and attracting direct investments into the state’s agribusiness sector.
Other members of the delegation included Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ada Val Arenyeka; Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Charles Aniagwu; Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Samuel Oligida; Director General of the Delta State Investment Development Agency, Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri; and Special Adviser on Investments, Barrister George Orogun. They reaffirmed the Governor’s resolve to create jobs through deliberate investment in agriculture.
The Brazilian hosts, led by Mr. Gustavo Monaco, expressed optimism about working with Delta State, citing Nigeria’s huge market potential and Delta’s fertile agricultural environment as strong advantages. Both sides agreed to sustain the engagement with a view to facilitating investment, knowledge exchange, and technology transfer.
Governor Oborevwori’s vision, as reflected in the mission, is to position Delta State as a hub for agribusiness in Nigeria and West Africa. Upon their return, the delegation is expected to present a comprehensive report with recommendations for pilot ranching projects and other agricultural initiatives.
