Business and Maritime Writers’ Association of Nigeria Applauds President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Appointment of New Customs Officials

PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: The Business and Maritime Writers’ Association of Nigeria (BUMWAN) expressed their congratulations to the appointed officials in a statement. BUMWAN’s National President, Peter Ihejirika, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognizing their hard work and dedication over the years. Ihejirika emphasized that the appointees had risen through the ranks and significantly contributed to the Nigeria Customs Service’s success.

This follows the announcement by the Nigeria Customs Service on the appointment of new officials to its management team. The newly appointed team consists of three Deputy Comptroller Generals of Customs (DCGs) and three Assistant Comptroller Generals of Customs (ACGs).

According to Ihejirika, the new appointments would lead to substantial growth in the Customs Service, including manpower development, enhanced service delivery, and a positive impact on the federal government’s fiscal policy stimulus.

He also highlighted the officials’ reputation for strict compliance with import, export, and cargo clearance laws, as well as their commitment to key responsibilities such as revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling efforts.

In response to the appointments, BUMWAN urged all officers and stakeholders in the maritime industry to collaborate with the new management team to achieve their objectives effectively.

Apostle Tony Nzekwe, the National Secretary of BUMWAN, described the appointments as a testament to merit, professionalism, and discipline within the Nigeria Customs Service. He expressed optimism for an era of enhanced technological-driven service delivery, improved cooperation with stakeholders, and increased revenue generation for the federal government.

The Congress of Idoma Media Practitioners, a pressure group, has issued a warning to lawmakers representing Zone C in Benue State. The warning comes in the wake of the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh, withholding the list of commissioners designate submitted by Governor Hyacinth Alia from the public.

The group expressed concern over the secrecy surrounding the list and cautioned lawmakers from Zone C against supporting policies that might not favor their constituents. They threatened to mobilize for the recall of any legislator perceived as a “rubber stamp” and not prioritizing the interests of Zone C residents, based on provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
