ASABA/Nigeria: The Project Coordinator of the Delta SEEFOR Project, Mr Benson Ojoko, has urged the 2018 contractor, supervisors and beneficiaries under the public works component of the SEEFOR Project to carry out their assignment with renewed vigour and strong determination in order to ensure that the objective of creating sustainable assets and keeping the environment clean is achieved.
Mr Ojoko stated this in Asaba and Okpanam in Oshimili South and North Local Government Areas respectively when he led his SEEFOR staff for an on-the–spot assessment of the pace of work.
He said that the project which was being funded by the World Bank, European Union and the Delta State Government was aimed at complementing the Okowa-led administration’s developmental drive in the state as well as creates employment for youths.
The SEEFOR Project Coordinator, who was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm displayed by the beneficiaries following their affirmation that they were happy with the nature of the job, urged them to contribute their quota towards transforming the state to an enviable height through their commitment to duty.
Mr Ojoko, further admonished the contractors to ensure that the materials were readily available on site at all times, adding that apart from the beneficiaries’ salaries that would be paid to them within the twelve month duration, an assessment of all the beneficiaries would be conducted at the tenth month of their engagement with a view to train them in vocational skills.
While saying that after the beneficiaries had undergone the vocational training in welding and fabrication, decoration and catering services, bead making, fashion and designing among other skills, he maintained that they would be presented with starter-packs at the end of their training so as to make them self-reliant and employers of labour.
He stressed on the need for the beneficiaries to always sign the attendance register and that absenteeism would not be condoned, adding that any erring beneficiary would be penalized by deducting equivalent amount from their monthly salary in tandem with the number of days they were absent from work.
Areas visited included the construction of road drains at the back of Eagle Square, Construction of Asphalt road and drains at Paul Odu Street, off Okpanam road Obodogwugwu Layout, construction of drain at Emefiele Avenue, off Redeemers’ Road, Okpanam and the construction of concrete road at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba among other projects.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen, some beneficiaries including Mr Chinomso Christian, Mary Omani and a supervisor, Mr Mukolu Chiedu as well as Engr Emmanuel Igba-Ujene thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the Project Coordinator of the SEEFOR World Bank and European Union assisted project, Mr Benson Ojoko for giving them the opportunity to benefit from the SEEFOR Project, saying that they were happy to be employed through the intervention.
