ASABA/Nigeria: Christians have been urged not to allow the culture of hospitality to go into extinction.
The Assistant Parish Priest of Catholic Church of the Ascension, Rev. Fr. Innocent Nwanunu made the call today, July 21, 2019 in a homily during the celebration of the Holy Mass at the Church in Asaba, Delta State.
According to him, “the culture of hospitality is gradually going into extinction because of the challenges of the present time; we are losing the culture of hospitality.”
“Before now, we welcomed strangers and cater for their needs but, as Christians, we should remain hospitable to people no matter the challenges,” the Priest said, adding, “Abraham welcomed strangers, so, no matter what, we should remain hospitable, give water to strangers, accommodate them because, it is the Christian culture to do so.”
He continued, “no matter how tensed the world may be, we should not lose the vision of Christian faith; we should not lose the virtue of hospitality and no matter how busy we may be, we should find time to listen to the word of God, always take your spiritual needs serious.”
Fr. Nwanunu who made reference to when Jesus met Mary and Martha, asserted, “there is the need for Christians to strike a balance between chasing things that will satisfy our body need and spiritual needs so that our struggle will not be in vain.”
“Many of us have turned hostile without being hospitable; nothing should discourage us from being hospitable; we should not allow the distractions of the world to affect us because, we are in the world without being of the world,” Rev. Fr. Nwanunu said.
There were thanksgivings by families.
