Enaira Consultant Dr. Bizi, Explaining The Digital Currency
ASABA/Nigeria: The Central Bank of Nigeria says due to the emergence of the eNaira, there are indications that lower denominations of the naira note, Point of Sale Services POS, and Automated Teller Machines, ATMs might go extinct.
The CBN Governor Mr. Godwin Emefiele, represented by the Branch Controller in Delta State Mr. Godwin Okafor, gave the indication at the Ogbogonogo Main market in Asaba, the State capital, where he visited to educate the traders on the benefits and flexibility of the eNaira platform.
Mr. Bright Orji, The Head of customer service spoke on their behalf.
“Now to the next level, everything has started going electronic and the Central Bank too is moving with the times.”
The CBN Consultant on eNAIRA in Nigeria Dr. Aminu Bizi, explained the nature and advantages of the platform.
“If all the onion seller, chemists, keke-napep, okada if they have eNAIRA, do you need to go to POS and cash money while ordinary Keke can receive 50 naira; before you get down you scan with the Keke scanner barcode and you pay him his hundred naira or fifty naira or what have you. So why should you go and queue to withdraw money.
“This five naira you see there is a cost to print the five naira and at the end of the day this five naira, ten naira or hundred naira will be abused.”
The Secretary to Delta State Government Mr. Patrick Ukah, represented by Mr. Benson Ojogo, commended the initiative by the CBN, saying eNAIRA has the potential to ease government and citizen’s financial transactions.
