CCP Rallies Support for Okowa, Calls on Christians to Get Their Voters Card

OREREOKPE/Nigeria: Clergies and leaders of the Christian Community in Politics, CCP, have said that prudent management of the resources of Delta State by the governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the accompanying infrastructural projects across the state are verifiable proof to attest to the governor’s excellent administrative paradigm.

The CCP leaders made the statement, Wednesday 25th April, 2018 when they paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Okakuro Efe Uko, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okpe local government area of the state.

While commending governor Okowa for turning the state into a construction hub, the CCP leaders noted that despite the lean resources to the state following dwindling oil price, development of critical infrastructure across the state has been sustained with unparalleled determination. They pledged unalloyed support for the governor Okowa led PDP government, saying, “The Christian community will rally support for the governor in appreciation of his exemplary leadership”.
The clergies said that the courtesy visit provides opportunity for the ministers of God to pray for political leaders in the state and also pledge support to the government for piloting the affairs of the state on a progressive note.

They added that efforts were being made to ensure the Christian community takes the ongoing voters registration exercise serious, saying that the church would participate actively in the forthcoming election to ensure the right calibre of political leaders are elected into public offices.

In his speech, Coordinator of the CCP, Okpe zone, Bishop Dr.MacPherson Onoriode commended Hon. Okakuro for his sterling leadership qualities, and prayed that God grants him wisdom and good health to lead his party to victory at the forthcoming elections.

Bishop Onoriode stressed the importance of voter’s card in elections, saying that it enables the electorates to elect the right persons into public offices. Continuing, he noted that Christians have huge role to play in determining the political direction of Nigeria and Delta state, saying the church is determined to play a prominent role in the political affairs of the state, noting that efforts are geared towards encouraging the Christian community to take advantage of the ongoing voters registration exercise and get their voters cards preparatory for the 2019 elections.
The cleric described governor Okowa as a true Christian who allows God’s counsel to influence his actions and policies.
Continuing, he called on the Okpe LGA PDP executive and the Ward Chairmen to work in unity with Hon. Okakuro to achieve the party’s political goals.

In his reaponse, Hon. Okakuro thanked the CCP leaders for the visit, even as he described the gesture as very significant in reminding political leaders of the role of God in their lives. He said the visit was  a welcome development, even as he expressed joy that the Christian community is taking a bold step to encourage good leadership which governor Okowa’s adminstration has signposted over the years. Continuing, Okakuro said that governor Okowa’s led PDP government recognizes the role of the Church in shaping the society and holds the ministers of God in high regard, adding  that  Okpe local government area has witnessed unprecedented favour from God in recent times. His words, “a good number of the sons and daughters of Okpe are holding prominent political offices in this political dispensation, including the office of the Speaker of Delta state House of Assembly currently occupied by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, an achievement he said was a tall dream in the past years.

Speaking earlier, the secretary, PDP Okpe LGA, Hon. Okan Francis described the visit as a dawn of a new day, saying that the church must take its place of honour and participate fully in the election of politicians into positions of authority. He tasked the Christian community on promotion of love and peace, noting that it is the bedrock of a progressive society.

The visit was rounded off with prayer to God by the Coordinator of CCP, Delta Central, Rev. Dr. Jerry Ejaromedoghene as he called on political leaders to put their trust in God to attract His divine wisdom in running of the affairs of the state. Adding that the church will continue to pray for political leaders in the state. The cleric said that the routine prayer session will be continued across the state.
