Chairman DBIR Applaudes Okowa on Prudence in Revenue Allocation

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa

WARRI/Nigeria: The ability of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration in Delta State to prudently apply tax payer revenue for overall development has been applauded and identified as one of the key confidence building measures necessary for a robust tax administration in Delta State.

Sir Monday Onyeme, Chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, made this assertion today while playing host to a five-member study group of the Zamfara State Tax Reform Committee who paid him a working visit in his office in Warri.

While welcoming the visitors who were on a three-day working visit to Delta State, Sir Onyeme emphasized the importance of study tours of sister states as a veritable means of cross fertilization  of ideas on revenue generation strategies, especially in the areas of learning new innovations and building symbiotic relationships for better service delivery.

According to the board chairman, “Nigeria is blessed with enormous resources and there’s a need to look inwards to explore and take advantage of revenue generation potentials of each state for the benefit of citizens.”

The team leader of the Study group and Head, Legal Unit, Federal Inland Revenue Service in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, Mr Muazu Shehu Ahmad, expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for the warm reception accorded his team.

He stressed that they were in the state to understudy the operations of the board with a view to repositioning the Zamfara State Revenue Service for optimum performance.

Mr Ahmad, a lawyer, revealed that the study group was set up by Governor Bello Matawallen Maradun of Zamfara State in his desire to shore up the internally generated revenue profile of that State.
