Chukwudi Enebeli Breaks Ground as Ndokwa’s First Senior Advocate of Nigeria

ABUJA/Nigeria: Monday, September 30, 2024, will forever stand out in the history of the Ndokwa people, as one of their own, Chukwudi Kachikwu Enebeli, shattered a glass ceiling by becoming the first from the Ndokwa region to be conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). This momentous achievement was celebrated at a grand ceremony in Abuja, with Enebeli’s elevation marking a significant milestone not only for his family but for the entire Ndokwa community.

The day commenced with the official conferment of the SAN title on Prince Enebeli and 86 other legal professionals at the Supreme Court. The conferment, which heralded the beginning of the 2024/2025 legal year, was overseen by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, who had only moments earlier been sworn in by President Bola Tinubu. Enebeli’s rise to the prestigious rank was a testament to his years of dedication and excellence in the legal profession, having been among the 87 lawyers approved by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee in August.

In her remarks, Justice Kekere-Ekun underscored the heavy responsibility that comes with the SAN title, highlighting the high standards expected of its bearers. “Your success did not come on a platter of gold. You have worked for it, and you deserve every privilege and honour that comes with it,” she stated. “As Senior Advocates of Nigeria, you must display integrity, self-discipline, and high standards of advocacy.”

Following the Supreme Court ceremony, a lavish celebration was held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. The event, attended by prominent figures from Delta State and beyond, was led by the Deputy Governor of Delta, Sir Monday Onyeme, who represented Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Onyeme lauded Enebeli’s achievement, praising the Ndokwa people for continuing to break new ground.

In his speech, Onyeme noted the significance of the occasion for the Ndokwa nation. “We are particularly delighted because this is not just an achievement for Enebeli, but for Delta State and Ndokwa in particular,” he said. “This moment signifies that the long-standing aspirations of our people are finally being realised. With Enebeli’s elevation, Ndokwa takes another giant step forward.”

The newly conferred SAN expressed heartfelt gratitude to his parents, Pharm. (Dr.) and Mrs. Paul Enebeli, for their unwavering support, as well as to his mentor, Dr. Kemi Peinhero (SAN), for guiding him throughout his career. Recounting pivotal moments in his journey, Enebeli shared anecdotes of how Peinhero’s mentorship played a crucial role in his success. “Without his support, I would not be here today,” he acknowledged.

The celebratory event was also graced by the presence of Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, who praised the Enebeli family and acknowledged the importance of Enebeli’s achievement for the wider Anioma community. “Chukwudi’s rise to SAN is not only a personal triumph but a significant step for Ndokwa. I am proud to stand with him in our shared commitment to the progress of our people,” Nwoko said.

Other prominent figures, including Chief (Mrs.) Elizabeth Idigbe, Managing Partner of Punuka Attorneys, also spoke in high regard of Enebeli’s character, integrity, and dedication. “Chukwudi is a rare breed,” Idigbe remarked. “His honesty and commitment to his profession stand out, and I am certain he will continue to make Ndokwa and Nigeria proud.”

The event concluded with a rousing call for mentorship in Nigeria, with Enebeli’s father, Pharm. Paul Enebeli, highlighting the vital role mentorship played in his son’s journey. “Mentorship is the key to success, and it is something we must nurture in our society if we are to reach our full potential,” he urged.

As the Ndokwa community celebrated this historic milestone, there was a shared sentiment that Enebeli’s elevation to SAN would pave the way for further achievements and opportunities for future generations.
