SAPELE/Nigeria: The Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Theresa Diai has set free two inmates of the Sapele correctional centre and one Juvenile at the Sapele Remand Home.
Those freed from the hook at the Sapele Correctional Centre were one Mr Ufuoma Victor, a native of Ughoton in Delta State charged for allegedly stealing a phone and a laptop, another Abubakar Abdullahi from Kano State who was Charged with Kidnapping/ Robbery and a minor master Isaac Frank freed from the Remand Home.
The Chief Judge who is visiting those facilities for the fourth time since she assumed duty as the number one person in the Delta State Temple of Justice told everyone presents that those released have no prima facie case established against them.
She explained that the purpose of her periodic visits to these Facilities was to review cases of inmates and to make sure everyone in the correction centres were the legal occupants of the place.
Hon. Justice Diai maintained that while reviewing the warrants of the inmates, if perchance anyone awaiting trial is discovered to have stayed more than the period he or she ought to have stayed if convicted, such a person would be released immediately.
She appreciated the Chairman of the Delta State Branch of ACJMC Hon Justice Godwin BRIKI-OKOLOSI of the Delta State High Court 11, Asaba, the Assistant Controller of Correction Centre, Sapele Mr Anyalewechi Malvin, the Solicitor-General Ministry of Justice Omamuzo Erebe Esq. Delta State Dpp, Mrs Efe Jesin Odogun, Other Courts Judges and Magistrates for the successful event.
Earlier in his address, the Assistant Controller of the Sapele correctional facility Mr Egbe Anyalewechi Malvin expresses his appreciation to the CJ while commending the effort of the Judges and Magistrates in the State for ensuring speedy dispensation of cases.
He appealed to the Judges and Magistrates to continue their cooperation by giving concessions to custodial cases during court proceedings amongst other requests.
The Delta State Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs Efe Jesin Odogun told Journalists after the event that the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Delta State, Mr Isaiah Bozimo has transformed the Ministry far more above the standard he met on the ground.
She Commended everyone who participated in the exercise of the first edition of the 2023 prison visit which made it a huge success.
Mrs Odogun admonished parents to take good care of their children and wards so that society can be a better place while bemoaning the moral decadence which is the bane of our society today.
Dr. O Lawrence Omughele, the Chairman of NBA Sapele who also bares his mind, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the Prison visit, emphasizing that the Governor of the State Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa Should be given Kudos for his Commitment to the promotion of the administration of criminal Justice system law in the state within his eight years event full administration.
