ASABA/Nigeria: The coalition of Civil Societies and Non-governmental Organizations in Delta State has decried the growing practice of money-induced election campaigns in the polity, noting the situation poses a serious danger to the nations democratic process.
The President of the Coalition Dr. Martins Kedienho, stated this in Asaba, during the inauguration of newly elected executive members of the association.
The President Dr. Martins Kedienho, observed the coalition will collaborate with relevant stakeholders aimed at tackling the menace of vote buying and other forms of money-induced electioneering in the coming 2023 polls.
“I call on the federal government to look into the issue of money-induced election for a better democracy and a better society.”
Dr. Kedienho, also expressed their observation on the recent supreme court decision on the dress code for judicial officers, urging the apex court to advance uniformity and inclusiveness in it’s processes.
Erstwhile President of the coalition Deacon Okezi Odugala, encouraged the new executive to be passionate about citizens welfare and to address the infiltration of fraudulent persons in civil society engagements.
“It is unfortunate that today we are seeing a lot of bad eggs coming into the sector and that is not good enough for us, because the society is looking up to us”
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Government on Civil Society and Citizens Engagement Activist Rex Anighoro, called for cooperation among members of the coalition in order to achieve its noble objective of speaking for the weak and the oppressed.
“The new EXCO is to learn from the labor of the heros past and bring that experience to bear. And also, to trust and obey. Sometimes that’s not what you like; it is not the way that is convenient, the ability for you to take it makes you a leader.”
The event was attended by Civil Society partners including representatives of the the Nigerian Police force and the International Red Cross Society.
