On Going Work at the Bridge
OBIARUKU/Nigeria: The people of Owa Abi in Ukwuani Local Government of Delta State will soon smile as the Headquarters of Christ Authourity, Lagos has decided to come to the rescue of the community, offsetting the repair work in the community.
It could be recalled that recently Ndokwa Reporters reported the sorry state of the people as they struggled to go to their farms which was across the Ethiope River, this drew attention of the state government and Channels Television to the community.
According to some members of the community, the ray of hope came from two of their people after waiting endlessly for government to come to their aide.
In an interview with this reporter, Comrade Promise Enegide noted that the bridge collapsed in April 2017, and appeals were made to the member representing the local government at the State House of Assembly to take the case as an issue of urgent attention, the Local Government Council, and the state government but all ended in promises, which was never fulfilled.
Com. Enegide while acknowledging that people from the state Ministry of Works had paid official visit to the site, said nothing was done, and in their visit they never interacted with the community.
He stated that the Councillor representing the community initially donated the sum of N500, 000 to commence repair of the bridge but the amount was too small, until the response of the Christ Authority Church, who had engaged a company to fix the collapsed bridge.
In an interview with the representative of the company, he assures that the bridge will be ready for use within the next three weeks.
Efforts to get the state commissioner of Works on the position of the state failed as he refused to respond to calls.
