College of Education Warri Lecturer Suggests Scientific Approach To Check Developmental Challenges

WARRI/Nigeria: The Deputy Provost of College of Education, Warri, Dr Fidelia Ighrakpata has suggested solutions to Man’s challenges through physicist/ geophysicist approach.
She made the suggestions at the 6th inaugural lecture, titled ‘A Physicist / Geophysicist Approach To Solving Man’ Challenges, in a lecture she delivered at College of Education, Warri.
Some of the solutions according to her included electricity generation, providing a cooling system, using solar energy, and designing of a solar dryer, amongst others
Ighrakpata, who is married to the Deputy Chief Whip of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, also posited that physicists/ geophysicist had helped mankind in solving the problems of environmental management and pollution control.
Some of the problematic areas, she mentioned included soil degradation, water contamination, deforestation, and over exploitation of natural resources amongst others.
On the way forward, the deputy provost recommended that governments at all levels should invest hugely in the energy and power sector, especially energy from biomass.
“Government should pay more attention to renewable energy.
“Government should enforced a standard for oil companies in constructing their installations to avoid spillage due to failure of equipment as a result of poor standard manufactured materials.
“Government should address the communities of various operational locations and meet up with their demands so as to avoid sabotage.
“As part of efforts to strengthened the local content policy of the federal government, oil companies should be encouraged to patronized indigenous institutions in the area of quantitative interpretation by providing required data, software and work stations.
“There should be training and retraining of physics teachers at all levels in ITC,” Dr Ighrakpata stated.
Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata who spoke to newsmen shortly after the event was full of praises for his wife for her excellent delivery of the lecture.
The Provost of the college, Professor Mary Edema had earlier remarked that Dr Ighrakpata delivered the lecture as a lecturer and as a professional.
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of a plaque and medal to Dr Ighrakpata by Professor Edema for her excellent presentation.
The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1, the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon Ramson Onoyake, and the President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU)  Chief Austin Ukuwrewre, were among dignitaries present at the event.
