Commissioner Charges Information Officers to Uphold Diligence and Discipline

ASABA/Nigeria:  Delta State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, has urged Information Officers to uphold diligence and discipline in the execution of their duties.

Dr. Osuoza made his stance clear while hosting the executive committee of the State Information Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, headed by its chairman, Comrade Kenneth Obieh.

Responding to concerns raised by Comrade Obieh, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of Information Officers taking their roles as government information managers seriously. He stressed the necessity of projecting the state government’s image positively.

Expressing disapproval, Dr. Osuoza criticized Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the state government that neglect to utilize the services of Public Relations Officers provided by the ministry. He vowed to collaborate with his counterparts to curb this trend effectively.

Assuring a significant improvement in the relationship between the Ministry of Information and other MDAs, Dr. Osuoza reiterated his commitment to advancing the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori administration.

In a separate address, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, State Information Chapel, Comrade Kenneth Obieh, affirmed the Chapel’s support for the government’s MORE agenda. However, he raised concerns about Chief Executive Officers of MDAs engaging personal media aides from outside the Civil Service, despite having qualified information officers within their ranks.

Obieh underscored the expertise within the Ministry of Information, lamenting the lack of consistent training and provision of essential work tools that often hindered their performance.

Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza’s directives highlight a call for professionalism and adherence to standards among Information Officers, signaling a renewed commitment to effective communication and public relations within Delta State’s governance framework.
