ASABA/Nigeria: Comrade Reuben Izeze, the Commissioner for Works, Highways, and Urban Roads, has called upon the contractor responsible for Sector C of the Asaba-Kwale-Ozoro-Ughelli dualization project to expedite their efforts and complete the job ahead of schedule.
During an inspection visit to the project site to assess the current status of the road construction, Comrade Izeze emphasized the urgency of increasing the pace of work with the dry season fast approaching. He pointed out that the delay in the project had garnered concern from the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
“The socio-economic importance of the Asaba-Ughelli road, which connects several communities across the three senatorial districts of the state, cannot be overemphasized,” stated Comrade Izeze.
Accompanied by senior government officials from the Ministry of Works, Comrade Izeze, a former member of the State Assembly, expressed his satisfaction with the quality of work being carried out by the construction company handling the project.
He commended the firm’s determination to achieve steady milestones and meet project deadlines but urged them not to slacken their pace. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing ongoing projects initiated by previous administrations and ensuring that taxpayers’ money is well spent.
Comrade Izeze assured the contractor that any challenges they faced would be addressed promptly, emphasizing that the government would uphold its end of the contractual agreement. He stressed that the supervision of projects was taken seriously, and standards would not be compromised under his watch as they align with the administration’s MORE agenda.
Mr. Wu-u Yuaru, the Zonal Manager of the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), responsible for the project, pledged that the project would be completed in the coming year. He noted that the precast beams for the bridge at the Ogwashi-Uku Dam were ready and that installation would commence once water levels reduced. He also appealed for increased funding from the state government to expedite the work.
Comrade Izeze’s visits to project sites across the state continue as part of his efforts to monitor the progress of road infrastructure development.
