ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to combat the escalating crisis of drug abuse among teenagers and young adults, the Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, has called on the State Drug Control Committee (SDCC), urging them to intensify their efforts and become more proactive in their campaign.

During a meeting with the Chairman and members of the SDCC at his office in Asaba, Mr. Ekedayen emphasized the gravity of the situation, asserting that the deleterious effects of drug abuse on the youth cannot be overstated. He underscored the potential for widespread ramifications, cautioning that every family in the state is vulnerable to the scourge if left unchecked, which could tarnish Delta State’s reputation.

Addressing the committee, Mr. Ekedayen stated, “Your role is not merely administrative; it is akin to a humanitarian mission. By preventing individuals from falling into the grip of drug addiction, you are averting potential accidents, safeguarding against mental instability, and preserving the sanctity of families.”

The commissioner’s impassioned plea underscores the urgent need for concerted action to stem the tide of drug abuse ravaging communities across the state. As the SDCC redoubles its efforts, the hope is to mitigate the devastating impact of substance abuse and pave the way for a healthier, more prosperous future for Delta State’s youth.
