Communal Crises: Delta Police Command Broker Peace Between Amai/Eziokpor Communities

Asaba: The communities of Amai and Eziokpor in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State have agreed to leave in harmony, and cease all hostilities between them.Delta Police Commisioner

The resolution was reached in a meeting brokered by the state police command to discuss the declining security situation between the communities.

Both Amai and Eziokpor communities recently had engaged themselves in communal land dispute, which had resulted in death of one person, and of recent accusations and counter accusations of abduction by both communities.

Recently the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon (Dr.) Ossai Nicolas Ossai has raised the issue of the security situation in the area on the floor of the house, as a matter of urgent public interest.

His action was termed hasty, it was denied, but less than twenty four hours of that denial, the communities raised alarms of missing persons.

Speaking to www.ndokwareporters.com, from the office of the Area Commander, Asaba, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Andrew Aniamaka today, Saturdy 22 April, 2017, said that the state police command decided to invite the two communities to see that the problem does not degenerate into war.

According to the PPRO, the police decided to be proactive to nip the problem before it becomes a serious security issue, and both parties had agreed to cessation of all forms of hostility

In order to ensure that the peace the process is achieved, and maintained, the communities were made to sign a written undertaken to ensure agreement reached is kept.

“The Amai/Eziokpor Communities promised to keep the peace, and they agreed on that by signing a written undertaken”. He said.
