Community Leaders Admonished to Prioritise Peace Above Personal Ambitions

OBIARUKU/Nigeria: Community leaders have been called upon to prioritize the peace of their communities above personal ambitions and interest in order to achieve unity and progress.

This call was made by the Executive Chairman, Ukwuani Local Government, Hon (Barr) C.S.P Ajede Esq while presiding over the reconciliatory/peace building meeting with the factions of chiefs of Ogwezi in Obiaruku.

While mediating in the lingering Onotu-uku tussle issue among the Chiefs, the Chairman admonished the chiefs to as community leaders put the peace and interest of the community first before anything else if unity and progress must be achieved.

According to the council Chairman, there is absolutely no gain in fermenting trouble in any community just because one has an ambition. He noted that no meaningful development will come to any community that is not formidable, peaceful and united. He therefore called for respect for one another in the interest of peace and progress in the community.

“In life nobody is more human than the other no matter how highly or lowly placed; and as such, in leadership nobody should see himself as superior to the another – leadership is not by grammar, intimidation and autocracy – Peace is greater than any personal interest”, he said.

Meanwhile, after about several hours of deliberation and consultations with the Council of Chiefs of Ogwezi, both parties agreed and settled the over 3 years Onotu-ukuship tussle in Ogwezi between  Chief Chukwudi Onajaefe (Ogbuefi Ocha) and Chief Ngozi Benedict Emeni (NgoBen).

At the end of the reconciliation and peace building meeting, Chief Chukwudi Onajaefe (Ogbuefi Ocha) stepped down as Onotu-uku to Chief Ngozi Benedict Emeni (NgoBen) the Onotu-uku of Ogwezi while Chief Onojaefe will now serve as Onüézé of Ogwezi.

In their remarks, the now united Ogwezi Council of Chiefs expressed gratitude to the chairman for the milestone achieved and assured him that going forward they will stay united as one family. They also prayed God to grant him increase wisdom to pilot the affairs of the LGA in tranquility.

In another development, Hon (Barr) CSP Ajede yesterday joined one of his staff, Mr Onoko Kennedy to his bury mother Mrs Ufeli Onoko at Akashiede Girls College, Obiaruku.
