EFFURUN/Nigeria: Commuters have expressed dissatisfaction over the time it is taking to rehabilitate the Effurun roads, from roundabout down to Enehren Juction.

The rehabilitation which is termed Project 5.4km which started two months ago was aimed to cover the Effurun roundabout, Jakpa junction, Airport roundabout, which are the most failed portions of the roads..

One of the project supervisors who spoke with our correspondent two months ago stated that the roads, after the rehabilitation is done, are meant to last a hundred years.

Mr. Udoh, a tricycle driver, who spoke with our correspondent expressed his fears, stating that the work which should have been completed since last month was delayed and dragged into the rainy season, which will eventually lead to the abandonment of the project.

Another tricyclist who pleaded anonymously stated that the machinery for the project has been seen on sight moving but nothing significant that suggests improvement has happened at all locations for a while.

He complained about the traffic the project is causing at all locations and also the distortion of normal routes from Airport roundabout to Jakpa road, stating that they are forced to charge passengers extra for extended journeys.

Mrs. Tina Otor, a regular commuter of the Airport roundabout stated that she avoids the Airport and Effurun roundabouts because of the terrible traffic the bad roads and constructions are causing.

Both transporters and commuters have called on the Delta State Government and relevant authorities to hasten the project and open up the closed portion of the road to ease the flow of traffic and give the Effurun roads and environment a face lift.
