ASABA/Nigeria: Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has rebuked Delta State chapter of All Progress Congress (APC) of placing more value on capital projects instead of joining the global collective effort to protect and secure the lives of Deltans, following the outbreak of the deadly Corona Virus which has ravaged the world and has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization, (WHO).
Onuesoke made the condemnation yesterday at Asaba International Airport, Asaba, Delta State in response to Delta state APC statement of urging Delta State government to reduce the size of government aides, instead of cutting down on capital projects in the wake of the Corona virus scourge.
The former Governorship aspirant described the statement of the APC Chieftain as thoughtless and heartless attempt to trivialize a very serious issue that involves global human lives and indeed the lives of Deltans in particular.
He equally but also condemned the desire of the APC to always see everything as political, even when it is a matter of life and death of the lives of Deltans that are at stake.
Questioning if APC can compare human lives to projects, Onuesoke pointed out that since the coronavirus pandemic break out, countries all over the world have budgeted billions in Dollars to caution the effect and spread of the dreaded disease on their people.
“For instance, White House requested $45.8 billion in emergency funding due to coronavirus, while Japan unveiled $4bn package for coronavirus. Other countries are spending billions in Dollars. So what is wrong if Delta Government manages its little resources to safe guard the lives of its citizenry?” he queried.
He stated that it is the nonchalant attitude of APC to human lives that is responsible for the Federal government led APC not to take proactive action against the disease when it broke out last year that has resulted in the spread of the pandemic to some part of Nigeria.
“I wish the Federal government took proactive action by blocking both the land and air border of the country, provide health officials in strategic places and backed with strong media campaign when coronavirus broke out last year, Nigeria would not have been in the sorry situation. Rather they were involved in sit down and look until an American man brought it to Lagos.
“I wonder how some people reason? Who is the government providing the projects for? Is not for the welfare of the people. What if the people died who will benefit from the projects? So it is better to secure the lives of the people first, before thinking of projects,” he advised.
Onuesoke commended Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for taking immediate action against the spread of the dreaded disease, stressing that for now, Delta State is among few other states in Nigeria that have not experience the disease, because the state government took proactive step against the scourge.
