KOKO/Nigeria: As the maiden edition of the Koko Marathon draws near, the present administration of Warri North Local Government Council, has pledged its support for the forthcoming Koko Marathon event.
This is coming after some officials of Iwere Sports Centre (ISC), paid a courtesy to the Warri North Council, chairman, Honourable Smart Asekutu to brief him on the readiness of the centre towards the event, as the event sets to kick start next month.
Speaking on behalf of the council chairman who was said to be on an official assignment, the secretary to the council, Mr. Meyiwa Khalil lauded the efforts of the centre at promoting grassroot sports development in the Iwere Kingdom, and Delta state in general.
He noted that the role of sports in the development of the society can not be overemphasized, adding that the forthcoming event will certainly impact on the people of the area.
Describing the Koko Marathon as a huge event, Mr. Khalil said if properly harnessed, it will put Koko on the global map as a haven for sports development.
He added that the council is very pleased with the Koko Marathon initiative, and called sports lovers in the local government area to avail themselves with the opportunity of showcasing their virility as sports men and women.
In response the spokesperson for the centre, Coach Toritseju Igbiaye, thanked the council’s secretary for the warm reception accorded them, and sued for more collaboration for the event.
