COVID-19: Avoid Self Medication, Medical Director Warns, Distributes Facemasks

OBIARUKU/Nigeria: The indulgence on self medication when there is sign of sickness had been described as dangerous and more expensive at the long run.

This warning was handed over by medical Director of Dominion care Medical centre, Obiaruku, Dr. Monday Ebeye, during a sensitization rally organised in order to ensure total compliance with the COVID-19 preventive measures outlined by the NCDC and the Delta State government, in Obiaruku, Ukwuani Local Government Area.

The rally which was organised  by Dominion Care Medical Center (DCMC), Obiaruku, and the Center for Education Development and Skill Acquisition Initiative (CEDESA) to further draw the attention of the communities in the local government to strictly adhere to all directly given by the government, as regard the compulsory use of facemask and other preventive measures.

The Medical Director noted that the Coronavirus is real, and can be prevented by simply observing scientifically proven preventive measures.

He stated that regular hand washing, avoiding crowd, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces that are frequently touched, avoiding touching of the face and physical/social distancing can go a long way to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Dr Ebeye who spoke through the CEDESA Manager, Mr Aiya Tim also noted that wearing of facemask in public places should be taken seriously just as he advocated for self-quarantine when sick.

According to him, self medication is as dangerous as whatever sickness one is trying treat with over the counter drugs; “it is important that people stay at home when they feel sick or go for proper checkup instead of resorting to self medication. I can tell you that self medication is very dangerous and more expensive at the long run”, he said.

Dr Ebeye also thanked the Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa-Led government for what he described as a proactive and pragmatic step by locking down the state which according to him helped in no mean measure to slow down the spread of the virus.

The campaign was used to distribute hundreds of facemasks to communities in the Local Council Area.
