High Chief Johnson Opone
ABUJA/Nigeria: An industrialist and President-General of the Ndokwa Social Cultural Group, Ndokwa Neku Union, NNU, High Chief Johnson Opone, have called on Deltans to continue their supports for the Delta State Government in the fight against the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, especially as the lockdown is about to be relaxed to enable for partial movement of citizens, to reignite the economy which had been shut down for four weeks.
Chief Opone who was reacting to the easing of the lockdown as announced by the state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, had also donated the sum of N500, 000.00 to the state government food bank account, said that for any success to be achieved in the fight against the spread of the virus in the state, total supports of the people is required.
While thanking the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for his well-coordinated efforts since the virus was first diagnosed in the country, especially in the availability of medical facilities in the form of isolation centres, treatment centres, the Personal Protective Equipments, and the recent procurement of Mobile Testing Equipments from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.
Chief Opone who stated that the relaxation of the lockdown is expected to increase human activities, employed Deltans to continue to observe the social distancing and avoid community gatherings to avoid the contacting and spread of the virus.
“As the Lockdown is to be partially lifted by end of this month, I call on Deltans to continue their supports to the State Government by observing all published guidelines, especially the social distancing and large gathering for occasions, wearing of face mask and constant hands washing with running water. The government had put the necessary facilities in place, let us support their efforts also with timely and necessary information on suspected cases if any.”
“I personally have to express my support for the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa government, I am impressed, with everything that this government had done to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.”
He pointed out that it was not only preparation of medical facilities, but also creating food bank, which the first circle had been distributed to the local government areas in the state.
Chief Opone, who contributed the sum of N500, 000.00 to the state government for the purchase of more food for the identified vulnerables in the state, called on other well to do Deltans to come forward and assist the state in any way to fight the pandemic, and reduce the human sufferings from government actions in curbing the virus.
“The state despite the huge resources already spent in the preparation of medical facilities for infected persons, have gone ahead to create a food bank to alleviate the pains that most persons faced because of the lockdown. We as a people should not be tired. Let us continue our contributions in one way or the other until the pandemic is defeated.” He said.
It could be recalled that Chief Opone during the four weeks of lockdown, had also contributed 80 bags of 50 kg rice, other foods and financial assistants to many communities and individuals as palliatives of the lockdown. The last of it before his latest contribution was the donation of 100 cartons of ndomie noodles to Ndokwa West Local Government Council to add to the food they received from the state Government as palliative.
