Crane Accident Kills One In Koko

KOKO/Nigeria: A young man, known as Jerry Ogheneremo, has reportedly died during a crane accident last Friday that occurred in Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local government Area, Delta State.
The deceased, who was said to be in his 30s, and hails from Ughelli, was a staff of Ebenco Global Link Services, a waste management and an oil servicing company in Koko community, and served as the crane operator for the company before he met his untimely death.
The accident was said to have occurred in the line of duty, when the deceased, as the crane operator, was in the process of hauling an object using the crane, from one point to another.
Eye witness account revealed that the deceased head was completely smashed by the crane immediately it shifted position after lowering the object.
When our correspondent visited the company’s premises to confirm the incident, the company’s Legal Adviser and Secretary, Mr Paul Omoluabi, corroborated the report saying, “It is indeed unfortunate, that we have to lose one of our staff this way, though occupational hazards do occur.”
“As a company we have policies in place that handles issues like this. As I am speaking to you, the family of the deceased has been contacted, and have already inspected the accident scene. We also took them to the mortuary where the corpse has since been deposited,” he further revealed.
Mr Omoluabi maintained that the police in Koko were contacted immediately the incident occurred, and have confirmed the death of the deceased as being associated with occupational hazards.
Efforts to reach the Divisional Police Officer, Koko Police Station, Mr Egwu Egwu, to comment on the incident, proved abortive, as he was said to be on an official assignment outside the community.
