Cross-Cultural Matrimony Unites Ijaws and Urhobos, as Hon Kenneth Oboro Preyor’s Daughter Weds Dr George Ohwoekevwo

UGHELLI/Nigeria: In a celebration of unity and national development, Hon Kenneth Oboro Preyor, the Immediate past Deputy Majority Leader and Member Representing Bomadi State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, bestowed his daughter, Tarelayefa, in marriage upon Dr. George Ohwoekevwo, hailing from Agbara-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State.

Amidst a gathering of esteemed guests, the traditional ceremony took place at the Ebiogbo Quarters, Kpakiama Town, in Bomadi Local Government Area—the ancestral home of Hon Preyor. The event solidified the notion that cross-cultural marriages play a pivotal role in fostering peace, unity, and the advancement of the nation.

Distinguished individuals from various spheres of life braved the inclement weather and undertook a long journey to the ancient community of Kpakiama, near Bomadi town. Their presence symbolized support and joy as they joined both the Oboro Preyor and Ohwoekevwo families in commemorating the union of Dr George Ohwoekevwo, a Medical Doctor, and the former Miss Tarelayefa Preyor, now Mrs Tarelayefa Ohwoekevwo, a Lawyer and the eldest daughter of Hon and Mrs Oboro Preyor.

The marriage adhered to traditional customs, encompassing rituals such as the exchange of kola nuts and drinks, inspection of essential marriage items from the Kpakiama community, the payment of bride price and dowry, and more.

Immaculately prepared, the Ohwoekevwo family from Agbara-Otor in Urhobo nation astutely fulfilled all necessary requirements, leaving no doubt regarding their readiness to welcome their new bride.

Following the acceptance of the presented items, Dr George Ohwoekevwo and Barrister Tarelayefa Preyor were officially declared husband and wife. Subsequently, the couple knelt before the bride’s father, Hon Oboro Preyor, as he offered prayers, elating him with the fulfillment of a parent’s wish to preside over their children’s marriage ceremonies.

In an interview, the delighted Hon Oboro Preyor expressed his gratitude for the realization of this dream, acknowledging the prayerful sentiments shared by all parents. He was joined by his wife, Mrs Campaign Preyor, and the newlywed couple, Dr. and Barr (Mrs) George Ohwoekevwo, all of whom expressed their deep appreciation to God for the abundance of grace in their lives.

Mrs Preyor, reflecting on her over forty years of marital bliss with Hon Oboro Preyor, hoped that her daughter would experience even greater happiness in her new home. The couple affirmed that love brought them together and pledged to safeguard their relationship.

The festivities included various musical performances by talented groups, alongside other entertaining attractions, all of which delighted the guests attending the Reception held in honor of the couple, Dr and Barr (Mrs) George Ohwoekevwo, at Hon Oboro Preyor’s residence in Kpakiama Town.

The couple’s white wedding, in accordance with Christian traditions, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 22 July 2023, in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State.
