OGWASHI-UKU/Nigeria: The Director-General of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, Eugene Azuka Uzum Esq, has said that the unwholesome situation brought by cultism and its related activities had continued to be barriers in the advancement of the society.
Uzum stated this while delivering a lecture as a guest speaker at an orientation programme organised for fresh intakes of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state, by the management of the institution.
He said that cultism had brought about break down of laws and order, violence, social instability, disruption of academic activities, putting one in perpetual fear, leading people away from Godly teachings and untimely death of youths who engaged in it and innocent victims as well.
The orientation helmsman advised the students not to be lured by peer groups adding that they should avoid societal decadence and be totally determined to face the purpose for which they were in school.
He said that the state government had continued to remain focused in producing outstanding personalities with good character and competence in all walks of life, such as Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Jim Ovia, Jay Jay Okocha, the Rector of the institution: Stella Chiemeke , and many others too numerous to mention.
Uzum, charged the students to dissociate themselves from any act capable of truncating their aspirations in life, stressing that Governor Okowa Administration was working tirelessly towards ensuring that cultism and drugs abuse were curbed in the state.
Highlights of the event was the affirmation by the students that they won’t join any cult group and its related activities in the society.
