Delta LGA Flags-Off Anti-Rabis Vaccination Exercise

UDU/Nigeria: The ongoing Anti-Rabies Vaccination in the state under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, for the promotion of public health, has been flagged-off in Udu Local Government Area.

The exercise which took place in Otor Udu, headquarters of the Udu Local Government Area today, was officially flagged off by the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Justice Iyesere.

Hon. Iyesere, who represented the Council Chairman, Hon. Onajite Brown, assured the team of veterinary doctors of the council support, even as he encouraged them to ensure that all pets in the local government area were vaccinated within the stipulated period.

Earlier, the leader of the team, Dr Alex Etim, described rabies as a zoonotic disease which he noted, could be transmitted between infected animals to other animals and humans through bite and contact with saliva.

According to Dr Etim, rabies also known as ‘Mad Dog Disease’ had no cure but only control measure such as vaccination.

He therefore advocated the eradication of stray pets from the streets to guard against the spread of the disease.

Present at the flag-off were the supervisory councillor of the council, Evangelist Emmanuel Kpomalefe, the Head of Environment Department, Mr Frank Erebi, amongst others.
