ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ede Dafinone, has congratulated the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), CFR, Orhue I, on the successful groundbreaking ceremony of the Orodje Sub-Palace in Sapele, describing the project as a historic milestone in the preservation of Okpe culture, identity and traditional institutions.
In a statement issued to mark the ceremony held on January 24, 2026, Dafinone said the establishment of the Sub-Palace reflects the enduring relevance of the Orodje stool as a symbol of unity, authority and continuity for the Okpe people.
“I congratulate His Royal Majesty on this landmark event, which represents a significant step in the preservation of Okpe history, culture and traditional institutions,” the senator said. “The Orodje stool remains a powerful symbol of unity, authority and continuity, and this initiative further strengthens its place in our collective heritage.”
Dafinone particularly commended the decision to locate the Sub-Palace in Sapele, describing it as an insightful and far-reaching move that demonstrates deep understanding of history, governance and the evolving administrative needs of the kingdom.
According to him, the Sub-Palace is not merely a physical structure but a vital institutional presence that reinforces the traditional and administrative role of the Orodje, while reaffirming the identity and legitimacy of Okpe traditional authority for present and future generations.
“The Sub-Palace stands not just as a building, but as a reaffirmation of identity, legitimacy and cultural heritage,” he said. “It is a visionary step that will continue to anchor our people to their history and values.”
The senator further stressed the profound historical importance of the Sub-Palace, noting that it underscores the overlordship of the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom as the only recognised traditional ruler in Sapele and across the Okpe Kingdom.
He said the restoration and renewal of the institution strengthen the documented foundations of Okpe traditional authority and ensure that the legacy of the kingdom is firmly preserved in national consciousness.
“I commend His Royal Majesty for this visionary leadership and reaffirm my commitment to initiatives that uphold history, peace and cultural preservation,” Dafinone added.
