DAFINONE: Under Oborevwori, Delta Will No Longer Lose Federal Opportunities

ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has assured that Delta State will no longer be shortchanged in the distribution of federal benefits and appointments, crediting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership for restoring coordination and influence at the national level.

Addressing party stalwarts, elected officials, local government chairmen, women leaders and youth representatives, Senator Dafinone lamented that the state had for years suffered marginalisation due to fragmented political channels that weakened its representation in Abuja.

“Up until April this year, positions from the federal government meant for Delta State were passing through too many channels, and we were losing out because of that,” the lawmaker said, drawing nods of agreement from the crowd.

He explained that even within the All Progressives Congress (APC), there had been long-standing frustration over Delta’s minimal share of federal appointments. “Most of the people here from the APC will tell you that we were just not getting our fair share of positions at the federal level,” he added.

Senator Dafinone, however, said the narrative has changed with the emergence of what he described as a “unified and visionary leadership” under Governor Oborevwori. “That has changed immediately. We now have one leader — a leader with vision, a leader directly plugged into the federal government,” he declared.

According to him, all recommendations and petitions from the state will now follow a central and coordinated process to ensure they receive proper attention. “Our leader takes them to the right quarters, and Delta State will be getting its fair share of all positions at the federal level going forward,” Dafinone said.

The senator’s remarks drew strong reactions from party stakeholders, many of whom described his message as both reassuring and strategic. Mrs. Ejiro Osadebe, a women’s mobiliser from Ughelli, said Dafinone’s comments rekindled her faith in Delta’s political structure. “When he spoke about a unified channel and plugging into Abuja, I felt hope return to Delta politics,” she said.

Similarly, former local government chairman, Mr. Jude Akpofure, hailed the senator’s message as a timely intervention. “We can no longer afford to be scattered. If our petitions and demands go in many directions, we remain marginalised. He’s right that we must stay united under one leadership,” he observed.

The gathering also saw Delta APC members pass a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori, endorsing both leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections, a development analysts view as a significant alignment of political forces within the state.

Concluding his address, Senator Dafinone urged all factions of the APC in Delta to put aside internal divisions and rally behind one leadership for the good of the state. “Unity is not optional, it is the only path to relevance and reward,” he stressed.

As the meeting dispersed, several attendees described the senator’s address as a defining moment in Delta’s renewed quest for fairness and influence at the federal level.
