ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ede Dafinone has welcomed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) confirmation that elections will be conducted in the restored Abraka (Ethiope East II), Ughelli South II and Isoko North II State House of Assembly constituencies during the 2027 General Elections.
The lawmaker, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, described the commission’s decision as a major milestone in the effort to restore equitable political representation to the affected communities following the judgments of the Federal High Court.
In a statement issued after INEC’s stakeholders’ engagement in Asaba, Dafinone said the confirmation of elections in the three constituencies marked the culmination of years of advocacy by concerned citizens and stakeholders committed to correcting what he described as a longstanding injustice.
According to him, the restoration followed sustained engagements by various stakeholders, including representations made by his office to the electoral commission in 2025 and 2026, alongside the judicial pronouncements that paved the way for the reinstatement of the constituencies.
He commended INEC for taking steps to implement the court judgments, describing the commission’s decision as a demonstration of its commitment to constitutional governance and fair representation.
The senator also expressed appreciation to individuals and groups whose efforts contributed to the restoration process, while acknowledging the resilience of residents of Ughelli South and Ethiope East who, he said, remained steadfast in pursuing justice through lawful means.
Dafinone congratulated the people of Abraka (Ethiope East II), Ughelli South II and Isoko North II on what he described as a historic achievement, expressing confidence that they would fully participate in the 2027 General Elections through their restored constituencies.
INEC had, during the stakeholders’ meeting in Asaba, confirmed that elections would be conducted in the three restored constituencies in compliance with the judgments of the Federal High Court.
