EFFURUN/Nigeria: As a continuous process to bring good governance to Nigeria, and for proper leadership direction, an organisation known as, Delta State Civil Society Organisation for Good Governance (DECGOG), has been formed in the state by a group of Civil Society Organisations.
The convener of the body, and Executive Director, Value Rebirth and Empowerment Initiative (VREI) Pst. Edewor Egedegbe in its maiden public event in Effurun, said the project is focused on promoting peace, good moral values and reorientation of citizens across the twenty five LGAs of the state in line with the core essence of the National Orientation Agency, NOA.
In his welcome remark at a 2-day training workshop for NOA and Local Government Chief Orientation Mobilization Officers he said that the project is multifaceted and will include research, human capacity development via training, seminar, outreaches, advocacy etc, adding that the overall goal of the programme is to strengthen the capacity of NOA personnel and the twenty five local government council officials, as well as community leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
While congratulating the newly elected chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area, he said DECGOG is a nonprofit and nonpartisan platform of civil society organisation working to promote the achievement of good governance and the Sustainable Development goals in Nigeria with the objectives to engage in actions and activities that would bring and foster transparency and accountability in governance.
In his lecture on “Developing Leaders” Pst. Egedegbe said that the framework of a leader is to become a person of influence, one that have vision and integrity, creating positive change, cultivate problem solving attitude etc, stressing that the most appreciable asset of a leader is to develop people, even as he maintained that learning, diligent, and sacrifice are the key factors that promote productivity as a leader.
The Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ramson Onoyake in declaring the workshop open appreciated DECGOG for embarking on such a laudable project which is promoting the achievement of good governance and Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria.
He used the opportunity to call on all in government as well as citizens to be at the centre of sustainable development by striving to build a society that is just, equitable and committed to promote economic growth, social development and environmental protection that will be benefiting to all, adding that government is working towards promoting good governance and providing the necessary amenities that will support healthy environment.
In the same vein, the State Director NOA, Mr. Okoro Ivan, said that their interest in orientating the people towards peace and national development is key, as their aim is to mould the attitude of Nigerians from bad to good, as well as enlightening the public on government policies, activities and programmes, saying that they will work consistently to raise awareness in society to create a change.
Also speaking, the Executive Director, Development Initiative for Community Impact, Mrs. Rachael Misan Ruppee in delivering her lecture on “Resource Mobilization” said that resource mobilization is a management process that involves identifying people who share the same value as your organisation, stating that it is important in helping to sustain organisation programme and project, maximize the use of local resources and to decrease continue organisation dependence on traditional source.
She noted that the objective of a project, the beneficiaries, the activities, duration of the project, the implementation team, location, as well as the budget must be thoroughly articulated before approaching a potential resource provider.
