DELSU Graduates 4,776, Best Student Receives Automatic Employment

ABRAKA/Nigeria: In a momentous ceremony marking the 2024 Graduation at Delta State University, Abraka, Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Egwunyenga revealed that a total of 4,776 students crossed the stage, including 730 postgraduates. Among them were 99 Doctor of Philosophy, 522 Masters Degrees, and 109 Postgraduate Diplomas.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the University’s Visitor, bestowed automatic employment upon the top graduate, Ilebe Joshua of the Faculty of Pharmacy, who achieved a remarkable 4.83 CGPA.

The Vice-Chancellor lauded Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to academic advancement, underscoring the university’s recent achievements. Notably, Delta State University soared to 22nd place among Nigerian universities listed in Scopus, claiming 10th position among state-owned institutions and the premier spot in the South-South Region according to the 2024 SciVal Ranking.

During the convocation, Professor Chukwuemeke Peter Aloamaka was honoured as a Professor Emeritus for his scholarly and administrative contributions. Additionally, former Minister of Information, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, received an HonoUrary Doctor of Letters.

Expressing gratitude, valedictorian Ilebe Joshua credited God and the university’s support systems for their success, particularly highlighting the Students’ Work and Scholarship Schemes aiding financially challenged students.

Governor Oborevwori urged graduates to embrace entrepreneurship, emphasizing the value of creating opportunities rather than solely seeking employment. He commended the university’s Governing Council and management for fostering growth and pledged continued support for academic excellence in tertiary institutions across the state.

Governor Oborevwori also inaugurated the Faculty of Science Extension and Microbiology Laboratory Complex, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure.
