ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has approved the reconstruction of the 9.35-kilometre Ezhionum–Ogume Road at an estimated cost of more than N7 billion, in a move expected to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities in the Ndokwa area of the state.
The approval was one of the decisions reached at Monday’s meeting of the Delta State Executive Council presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed the approval while briefing journalists after the meeting.
He said the project was intended to open up rural communities along the route, improve movement and strengthen economic activities within the area.
The Ezhionum–Ogume corridor is particularly significant to communities in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, where improved road infrastructure is expected to enhance access between communities and facilitate the movement of people, farm produce and other goods.
The approved project covers approximately 9.35 kilometres and has an estimated value exceeding N7 billion, according to the commissioner.
The project forms part of a wider set of road interventions approved by the Executive Council, including the reconstruction of Uba Egbelemeji–Ugbenikoko Road in Warri North, rehabilitation and reconstruction of Mosogar Community Road Junction–Okwueka Road, and reconstruction of the Old Oviorie–Agbarho–Eku Road.
Aniagwu said the various infrastructure approvals reflected the state government’s commitment to improving road connectivity and delivering projects capable of supporting economic development.
For communities along the Ezhionum–Ogume axis, the reconstruction is expected to address transportation challenges and improve access to surrounding communities and economic centres.
However, the government has yet to disclose further details on the contractor, construction timeline, commencement date and the specific scope of works under the Ezhionum–Ogume project.
The approval therefore marks the beginning of the process leading to the physical reconstruction of the road, with further details expected as implementation progresses.
