AGBOR/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education has commended the consistent dedication of successive governments in Delta State towards fostering quality education and academic excellence.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Charles Chukwuemeke Emetulu, stated this when the Committee visited the University of Delta, Agbor, on Friday, May 3, 2024.
The Chairman used the visit which is part of its oversight duties to praise the state’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement, stating, “Successive governments in Delta State have always placed high priority on quality education and academic excellence.
“The visit, which marked the conclusion of the Committee’s tour of MDAs and state-owned higher institutions, showcased the resolve of the 8th Delta Assembly to collaborate with the Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration in furthering educational objectives.
Accompanied by Vice Chairman Hon. Benson Obire and other committee members, Hon. Emetulu lauded the establishment of three new universities in the state by the immediate past governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa.
He emphasized the significance of these institutions in providing access to education for many families who previously found it financially challenging.
Emetulu assured that the state government is actively pursuing infrastructural development in these new universities and other tertiary institutions in alignment with the state’s MORE Agenda.
During the visit, the Committee commended the University of Delta, Agbor, for its commitment to maintaining high academic standards.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Stella Chiemeke expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of Governor Oborevwori and the State House of Assembly towards the growth and development of the institution.
Prof. Chiemeke highlighted the ongoing accreditation process for 74 academic programs, affirming the institution’s readiness to meet the standards set by the Nigeria University Commission (NUC).
The visit also included an inspection of ongoing and completed projects within the university premises, including facilities for the College of Medicine and Tetfund-sponsored projects aimed at enhancing learning environments.
The Committee emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the university management and relevant stakeholders, including the State Assembly Committee on Education, to further elevate the institution’s standing and impact.
